Fencing (FAQ)

Is AJI Fence licensed and insured?

Yes, AJI Fence is fully licensed and insured.

What types of fencing does AJI Fence offer?
AJI Fence installs a wide variety of fences.  If we don’t show the type of fence you are interested in on our website, please contact us. (hyperlink to contact form)

Does AJI Fence use screws or nails when installing wood fences?
Many times, this is dictated by fencing requirements (either your HOA or project specifications for commercial projects). However, when not specified, we use ring or screw shanked, hot-dipped galvanized nails. These nails are designed to grip the wood much like a screw would and allow for minimal bleeding.  We are able to use screws if that is your preference at an additional cost.

Do you set your posts in concrete?
Yes, we set our posts in concrete.   We use a mixer mounted on our trucks to make the concrete from sand and gravel, Portland cement, and water. The exceptions would be metal tee posts used on barbed wire fencing, and possibly livestock fencing that surrounds multiple acres of land.

What type of wood does AJI Fence use for its standard wood fence?

Our wood fencing is typically built with Western Red Cedar unless otherwise specified. Western red cedar is naturally insect and rot-resistant, has good longevity, and is the preferred fencing material for this climate.

Are there privacy fence options for high wind areas?
Yes, there are options that aid in fences standing up to strong winds.  Some of the options include larger posts, steel posts instead of wood posts, and closer post spacing.  The benefits of each option can be discussed with our sales consultants.

Where should the fence go in relation to the property lines?
For new fence installations, where there is no existing fence, the fence is typically installed just inside the property lines to prevent encroachment on your neighbors’ properties.  In the case of replacing an existing fence with a new one, and no boundary markers are visible, it is at the customer’s discretion as to where the new fence is to be placed.  If there are concerns about where the property line is, you can contract with a private surveying company to have them identify and mark the property boundaries.

Do I have to pull a permit?

While there are some exceptions, most municipalities require a permit for a new fence or the replacement of an existing fence. When required, this is a service AJI Fence provides.  Most repairs do not require a permit.

Do I need approval from my Homeowners Association (HOA)?

Most HOAs across the country have covenants dictating what kind of fencing can be used within the neighborhoods they serve, and they should be able to provide you with any fence specifications for your neighborhood.  HOA approval is usually required to have a new fence installed or when replacing an existing fence in your yard.  Most repairs will not require HOA approval.  It is always best practice to check with your HOA first.

I am having landscape work done as well as a fence, which should be done first?
This varies depending on the scope of the landscaping being installed.  We can work with your landscaping contractor to come up with a solution that works well for both them and us.  For example, many times the fence posts will be installed before the landscaping, and then the fence will be finished after the landscaping is completed.  This prevents disturbing the new landscaping when digging holes for the fence posts, allows access for the landscaping contractor to complete their scope, and it prevents damage to the finished fence.
